A 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT
SHELTIE RESCUE
Welcome
Western North Carolina Sheltie Rescue (WesternNCSR) serves North and South Carolina as well as upper Georgia and parts of Eastern Tennessee with seasoned sheltie volunteers. Between our founding members, we have over 40 year of experience in loving, rescuing and adopting shelties. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, qualified to receive tax deductible donations, bequests, devises, transfers and gifts.

Is a sheltie for me? Often mistakenly called miniature collies, the Shetland Sheepdog is a distinct breed. They can be sweet and gentle, or rumbustious and playful, they are almost always barky. It’s what they do. They love to herd and announce to the world that something is happening. While a great family pet, unless you get them very young and have them grow up with your young children, we would not encourage them around children under 6. You will never be alone once you own a sheltie, and we mean never, not even in the bathroom 😊

Our Mission
Western North Carolina Sheltie Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foster based rescue in Western North Carolina. We serve North and South Carolina and upper Georgia as well as parts of Eastern Tennessee when needed. We will also help Sheltie mixes and other herding dogs if the need arises by providing safe compassionate homes to them when they find themselves homeless. WesternNCSR will do everything in its power to prevent cruelty, overpopulation and euthanization of these animals. We promise to help any dog in our care to have a final home that is best suited for the circumstances of that dog.
Message from Trish
Our Founder
Hello everyone,
My name is Trish Jacobs and the founder of Western NC Sheltie Rescue. Our mission is to take in the abandoned, neglected and unwanted dogs, who no fault of their own find themselves needing a home, and dogs that for some reason are very loved but their owner can no longer care for them.

Theas aka Tia is the dog who inspired Western NC Sheltie Rescue. Her story is one of a different kind of rescue not caring about her and literally causing her behavioral issues and not taking the time to see that she was placed correctly in the first place and then not allowing her to go to the loving arms of her first foster mother. So, because of Theas, I started Western NCSR with the help of some other volunteers who also could no longer work in the confines of this other group, where the dog’s best interest is not their best interest.
We have had several, BEHAVIORAL dogs since Theas, and have used the same techniques and had astonishing results. Unlike other rescues we do not JUST care about the physical dog, we are here to work with the mentality of the dog as well. The whole dog is important for a happy and special bond between owner and fur baby. We are very open with our adopters to any information we have on the dog’s history. We also stay in touch with the original pet’s owner if they so desire and let them know how they are doing. Some people need to give up their pet because of extenuating circumstances or health issues and should be able to do so without guilt. It isn’t something that is easy to do, but they do so with the best interest of their pet at heart.
